Making Democracy Work

Affordable Housing

The League's Affordable Housing Study Group was active from 2005 to 2008, educating the public about the importance of affordable housing through informational meetings/forums and encouraging local officials to support affordable housing initiatives. The programs included investigations of how zoning regulations like Chapter 40B (comprehensive permit) and Chapter 40R (smart growth) affect our towns. We also learned about the affordable housing activities of other Leagues. Particular emphasis was placed on North Andover, which was not yet in compliance with the 40B ten percent (10%)goal; however, there was also a focus on Andover's efforts to maintain its level of affordable housing, which was in excess of the 10% goal, and to increase its supply of affordable housing.
